Medical Office Technology

In the article "Kiosk-Based "Office" Extends Reach of Health Services Providers" by Shannon Brys they talk about a new medical technology. They have kiosk machines people can go to if they don't want to actually go in to see the doctor. They can go to one of the machines and a trained employee will sign you in take a co pay and take you to the machine. From there you go in the unit and log in using your finger print, phone number, and a pin number. Then a specialist will appear on the other side of the screen. They are saying this technology could be deliver care more quickly, conveniently, and cost effectively.

Many simple situations can be handled quickly with one of these machines, such as if you have a cold, sore throat, questions about medications, and many other simple things. There are also nurses that come in to give shots, and use the stethoscope. To set up a time to get to one of the machines you can call the location, go online to schedule, or just walk into one of the locations. These kiosk machines are not meant to take over doctors, but to create efficiencies. The cost of the machine is lower then going to any traditional office.

I can see these kiosk becoming a big deal and making more of them in the future. A lot of people don't like going to see the actual doctor so maybe they would be willing to go to one of the machines to get medicine for a sinus infection or a cold. It would be cheaper to go to a kiosk then it would be to go to an official office but you still pay a co-pay. I think it would interesting if one came to our area.

Advice to new students

The first semester is coming to a close and I will no longer be a new student so I would like to give some advice to the new incoming students. First off keep track of due dates they are important. Most professors will not except late work or sloppy work if you do it at the last minute. Another important thing to keep track of are test days so you don't miss a test because there are no make up for most classes. The same goes for quizzes. You also want to be professional, remember you are preparing for a career and you should act like you would in the work field. Treat everyone around you with respect: students, professors, and other staff members. If you want to succeed you have to show up and do your best. You have to show effort on your work and make sure you study for the test and quizzes. Last but not least always ask for help if you need it. Professors are always willing to help and take advantage of the tutoring center.

Multitasking

In the article "Media Multitasking is really Multi-Distracting" from Boston College they talk about how being on your computer, television, phone, radio, and other technology at the same time can be distracting. they placed some people in a room containing a television and a computer and was given a half hour to use either device. The people on average switched their eyes back and forth between the television and the computer about 120 times in that half an hour. Some of the people thought they were looking at the computer during certain times but really they were watching the television and some thought the other way around, they thought they were looking at the television but really they were looking at the computer. The length of gaze lasted less than two seconds for television and less than six seconds for the computer. No one looked at either screen for more than a minute.

In the article "Social Media Multitasking May Damage Attention Span" by Doug Caverly talks about how checking social media and email to regularly can hurt adults ability to concentrate. Adam Gazzaley, the senior author of the new study, added, “The impact of distractions and interruptions reveals the fragility of working memory.  This is an important fact to consider, given that we increasingly live in a more demanding, high-interference environment, with a dramatic increase in the accessibility and variety of electronic media and the devices that deliver them, many of which are portable.” he also says that depending on what type of attention span a person wants they should probably cut back on the social media, smartphones, ipads, and other technology.

When I went to college before I would have the television on while I was doing my homework. I had a single room and I liked the noise of the television while I was working. Sometimes I had music playing while I was doing homework or studying. I still do the same thing today when I'm alone at home cleaning or doing work around the house.
